SUMMARY:How do you choose a reference manager?
DESCRIPTION:With so many options available\, choosing a reference manager can be overwhelming and confusing. In this 60-minute webinar\, we will look at three of the most commonly-used reference managers: Endnote\, Mendeley and Zotero. We will explore key considerations such as the learning curve of the software\, their compatibility with word processors and how easily they import various file formats. There will be a demonstration of each reference manager\, illustrating their main features and advantages\, as well as a quick comparison of the software and their pros and cons. \nChoosing a reference manager is essential in the early stages of doctoral research and when collaborating on a literature review within a research team. \nThis is the second webinar in the SWDTP literature review series.Kerrianne Orriss is a Teaching and Learning Librarian at the University of Bristol. Please note this session will be recorded. Some limited participation may be elicited in the session (no breakout groups). \nRegister on Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/how-do-you-choose-a-reference-manager-tickets-1237818671969?aff=oddtdtcreator

SUMMARY:Queer(ing) Migration film screening and director Q&A - MMB PGR Group
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce the date for the second MMB PGR discussion group taking place on Thursday 27th February from 3:00-5:00pm (Arts Complex LT3). \nContinuing our thread of critical approaches to migration studies\, we will be paying attention to perspectives on queer(ing) migration\, particularly to challenge understandings of queer liberation through migration. Which bodies are afforded opportunities to migrate? How do borders act as violent regulators of Western understandings of sex\, genders\, and sexualities? How might queer perspectives challenge the assumption that queer refugees are ‘liberated’ in and through their asylum claims? \nTo help us with these questions\, we are excited to be screening the film Queer Exile\, directed by writer and activist Ahmed Awadalla. He will join us virtually to take part in a Q&A after the screening. The details of the film are below: \nAfter fleeing Egypt post-2011 revolution\, an activist seeks freedom in Berlin but finds himself in a refugee camp surrounded by far-right protests. As he navigates the hostility and nostalgia for his past\, he reflects on exile\, queerness\, and the meaning of “home” while forming new friendships. \nDrinks and popcorn will be provided to go along with the film screening. Most importantly\, this is an interdisciplinary space and we value as much input from as many perspectives as possible! \nPlease register to attend as this will help us plan catering and let us know if you have any dietary requirements. For further information\, please get in touch. \nWe look forward to seeing you there!
