SUMMARY:Decolonisation: Selves\, Research Methods\, Topics
DESCRIPTION:This day conference brings together 3 academics and artists to discuss and problematise ‘becomings’ that lurk in attempts at decolonisation in the academy. The speakers represent territories and subjectivities that have felt the implicit and explicit impacts of colonisation: Cyprus\, Greece\, and Chile. Their talks will invoke concepts and directions that are drawing them\, personally and professionally\, which could be broadly categorised as: decolonised and decolonising selves\, decolonising research methods\, and the decolonisation of topics that academics produce knowledge on and about. Together\, they will scaffold the argument that decolonisation touches on most aspects of life and work in the academy: teaching and learning\, interpersonal relationships and group processes\, ambitions and life projects\, assumptions underpinning health and interventions to promote it\, the practice of psychotherapy\, academic promotion\, and dissemination of one’s work. \nMiltos\, Angelos and Karen join forces as fellow humans\, academic immigrants to the UK\, and members of communities of practice that move them towards decolonisation but also caution against an uncritical rejection of mainstream approaches. The day will conclude with an artist’s point of view and the formation of a South-West consortium of social scientists from the universities of Bristol\, UWE\, Bath\, and Exeter that will apply relevant insights to their contexts and disciplines (i.e. clinical psychology\, counselling psychology\, family therapy\, economics\, and social anthropology). \nFor more info and tickets\, please visit: https://store.uwe.ac.uk/conferences-and-events/research-business-and-innovation/decolonisation-selves-research-methods-topics/decolonisation-selves-research-methods-topics
