Research Co-op

The call for SWRC funding applications is now open! Click here for more information.

The South West Research Co-operative (SWRC) is a student-led venture that gives SWDTP students support for collaborations with small charities and social enterprise groups. Such groups often have very limited resources, and may benefit from focused research projects undertaken over a short time period, i.e., less than a week. The Co-operative assists in identifying such groups, projects and students for a twofold aim:

  • Creating a community of research, and offering support and input for small, resource-limited organisations
  • Creating opportunities for students to apply their research expertise in non-academic environments

Collaborations do not have to involve ‘research’ per se. They could, for example, come in the form of a half day at a local Carer’s Centre, advising them on incoming government legislation, to a five day stint facilitating focus groups for a community initiative.

TOR – Student Journal

It has been has been developed as a collaboration between postgraduate students from the SWDTC, to create a platform for students to publish their work, gain skills in peer reviewing and develop insights into working on an academic journal.

Student Conferences

The SWDTP Student Conference is an annual event, organised for students by students. The conference is free of charge and is open to all PGR students across the five SWDTP institutions, regardless of funding source.  It is a great way to meet other students, who are at different stages of their research, to share ideas and details of projects, plans and experiences.

Have a look at our conference pages for further information on the 2017 conference and previous conferences.

PAR – Participatory Action Research Group

The PAR group meets on an monthly basis and the sessions are open to everyone, so you are welcome whether you are just curious about participatory methods or thinking of incorporating the approach into your own research. Sessions are designed by the person leading them but may involve the trial of a technique, a reading, a piece of their work to discuss, or a critical discussion about participatory research.
