The Open Review is an open social science journal run by students in the SWDTP with a view to supporting academic publication in the social sciences within a student led, peer-reviewed academic journal. The journal provides a platform to support our needs as students, publicise the work that we do and provide a supportive yet rigorous platform for an introduction to the world of academic publishing.

The Open Review (TOR) invites postgraduate researchers to submit abstracts for our 11th edition, scheduled for publication in Spring 2026. As an open social science journal run by students in the SWDTP, TOR provides a supportive platform for publication in the social sciences within a student led, peer-reviewed academic journal.
This edition is titled “Research Lifecycle: Motivations, Dead Ends and Impact” and invites researchers to reflect on:
- Why they research (enthusiasm, funding, societal need etc)
- Who their research is for (this could include themes such as justice and collaboration)
- Failures, learning points, and pivots in their research
- The legacy of their research (What is ‘impact’? How is it shown?)
- Anything else that fits into the research lifecycle!
You can submit your abstract to our Microsoft Form here.
We greatly look forward to receiving your contributions. If you have any questions or queries please contact torenquiries@gmail.com.
