This is a joint placement on Supportive Care – a holistic approach to the last 1,000 days of life.
There will be opportunity for the postholder to express interest in specific research areas, likely to include:
1. Gathering and analysis of secondary data and the forecasting of regional demographic, health, and economic demand and need
2. Interviews with:
(a) Healthcare professionals and Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCSFE) representatives around the concept of supportive care at the end of life for patients, families and the wider community, including perceived evidence gaps and service delivery challenges in the context of the NHS 10 year strategy to move care from hospital to community, and the forthcoming Modern Service Framework for Palliative and End of Life Care*. Data will be considered alongside the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) strategy of impact, inclusion, innovation and investment.
(b) International academics/practitioner researchers to better understand challenges and global perspectives around supportive care at the end of life.
The placement will be complementary to a University of Bath sponsored PPIE project with the local community. The placement student will be able to gain insight into this PPIE work to understand how multiple stakeholders can shape applied research and practice.
