My research seeks to explore the past, present, and possible futures of school gardens as a site for transformative education that empowers young peoples’ response to the climate crisis. Despite its uncritical framing as an instrumentalist solution to social, health, and environmental crises, school gardens are complex and contradictory spaces that function to both resist and reproduce hegemonic relations to nature and plantation logics.# Through unpicking the overlooked colonial legacies and disciplining histories of school gardens, my research aims to reimagine the garden as a site for cultivating new ways of being and imagining alternative futures.
