My research will explore the navigational strategies employed by people with visual impairment (PVIs),
particularly how they construct cognitive maps without vision. My project will involve participants
exploring environments across different spatial scales, from small tabletop layouts to larger indoor and
outdoor spaces. Participants will complete navigational tasks designed to assess how spatial
information is understood and used. Interviews with PVIs and orientation and mobility (O&M) specialists
will explore navigation experiences and strategies used in everyday environments. The project will
incorporate my experiences as a PVI, with the aim of contributing to more effective O&M support and
increased independence for PVIs
