Age Cymru is the leading national charity working to improve the lives of all older people in Wales. Every year, Age Cymru runs an annual survey of the experiences of people aged 50+ in Wales, which our Policy team then turns into a series of reports on key issues like health and social care, housing, transport, the cost of living and more. These reports not only influence Age Cymru’s own campaigning work, but also act as a valuable resource for other charities, Welsh Government, NHS Wales, local authorities and others interested in improving the welfare of older people in Wales.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Policy team to draft two reports, focusing on two of the key issues to emerge from the survey. This will involve analysing the results of around 1,500 survey responses, drawing out key themes and evidence, and assessing findings with reference to wider literature. The candidate will also work on the editorial and publication process, ensuring that the reports meet high editorial standards and are shared successfully across the policy sector.
This three-month placement offers a chance to take part in an original social research project focusing on the most pressing issues affecting older people in Wales today. It will also introduce the candidate to the process of policy research and influencing policymakers – including the new intake of Senedd Members – providing invaluable experience for a career in public policy.
