Work Package 2: E-financial harms – Local Authority Landscape
Review of Local Authority Approaches to Child (E-)Financial Harm
Ygam would like a clear picture of how local authorities currently address these child financial harms/e-financial harms in their strategies, and where gaps or promising practice exist.
Tasks:
– Review local authorities JSNAs, Children & Young People’s Plans, Financial Inclusion Strategies, Local Offers, and Gambling Needs Assessments.
– Identify references to e-financial, gambling, and gaming harms.
– Extract examples of promising practice and classify local authority approaches.
Deliverables:
– A comparative analysis of local authority approaches.
– A typology of LA responses (e.g., minimal, emerging, embedded, leading).
– Examples of promising practice.
2.2 Mythbusting
Challenge:
Adults often misunderstand how young people experience gaming, gambling adjacent features, and digital money. To design effective education, we need to hear directly from young people.
Creative Task:
Choose 5-7 myths that adults might believe. For each myth you should explain the myth in a way adults will recognise, bust the myth using youth insight, examples of lived experience, describe the real risk, and offer a clearer way for adults to understand the issue.
