Work Package 1: E Financial harms – A System Understanding
1.1 Mapping the System: Who Plays a Role in Preventing Child (E-)Financial Harm
Aim: Ygam would like a clear, visual map of the system to understand who plays a role, where responsibilities sit, and where gaps are currently present.
Tasks:
– Conduct a stakeholder mapping exercise (schools, banks, fintech, local authorities, youth services, regulators, gambling harm services, gaming platforms).
– Identify leverage points, bottlenecks, and system failures.
– Map relationships, responsibilities, and flows of influence across financial, digital, gambling, and gaming ecosystems.
Deliverables
– A visual system map.
– A short analytical report identifying leverage points, bottlenecks, and opportunities for intervention.
– Recommendations for strengthening the system.
1.2 Visualising the digital journey
Challenge:
Children’s money flows through complex systems (banks, gaming platforms, microtransactions, gambling adjacent features), but these are often difficult to visualise, hidden or not well known.
Creative Task:
Create a digital journey map showing how a typical child encounters financial, gambling, or gaming related risks online. This will help us better understand where the money goes when a child spend online, you may wish to consider how different fictional online personas e.g., Casual Gamer, Skin Trader or Weekend Earner experiences interact with this digital journey map.
