I would like to offer a placement for an enthusiastic and motivated candidate interested in the policy landscape related to the development of digital innovations in the UK. The placement will review the current landscape of the developments of so called ‘digital twins’, i.e. a new generation of models using real time insights, two way data transfer between the real thing and the model and data sharing across organisations. Digital twins is a growing priority area in the UK, with several related high profile initiatives launched recently (e.g. National Digital Twin or National Data Library). The research will feed into the ongoing policy engagement work led by Dr Ola Michalec, who is involved in the advisory board of the Digital Twin Network+.
Project scope:
– A rapid review of government strategies and policies: (for example) Vision for Cyber Physical Systems, the National Digital Twin programme, the National Cyber Physical Infrastructure programme, Data Access Bill
– Stakeholder analysis of relevant public and private actors across DSIT, Ofgem, DESNZ and DBT, IT companies, Virtual Energy System, NESO, network organisations. What are their roles, relationships, key motivations and any potential conflicts of interest across departments?
– Account of the relationships between the government departments procuring digital twins and IT companies developing them.
The review will be completed through the analysis of public information (white papers, meeting minutes) and Freedom of Information Requests.
This is an ongoing opportunity with no set application deadline.
