This research placement will be undertaken at Plymouth Marjon University, an institution with a strong focus on generating positive social impact through sport, health, and education research. The placement will contribute to an ongoing programme of research exploring the impact of menopause on sports participation and performance. One strand of this research is focusing on female sports coaches and the perceived impact of the menopause on their practice, performance and wellbeing.
The placement will involve the collection and analysis of qualitative data using online semi-structured interviews with female sports coaches who are experiencing or have experienced menopause. The qualitative data will be analysed using thematic analysis. The findings will be written up for academic publication and other formats that intend to provide more informed support, educational resources and coaching practices. The placement will involve participating in the writing of these outputs.
Through this placement, the researcher will develop advanced skills in qualitative research design, interviewing techniques, data management, coding, thematic analysis, and academic writing.
